New York Jets Hold Voluntary Workouts, All Smiles for Star Quarterback Aaron Rodgers
Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets start voluntary workouts today. Aaron Rodgers was all smiles as he entered the building.

New York Jets Offseason

In his 20th season as an NFL veteran, Aaron Rodgers was surprisingly one of the first to arrive at the Jets’ voluntary offseason workouts. Veterans of his stature rarely participate in voluntary workouts.

His arrival also may shock Jets fans as Rodgers is only seven months removed from a significant Achilles injury. Rodgers was publicly trying to participate towards the end of last season, and has been adamant about his optimistic progress in his injury rehab.

Rodgers has stated that he plans to play for a few more seasons post injury, but there is some relief in his arrival. He has had “issues” in his past showing up for offseason activity with the Green Bay Packers, but seems happy to be present for the Jets.

Surrounding Rodgers with Talent

The Jets have had a busy offseason surrounding Rodgers with a roster that could make a run. The two biggest names are wide receiver Mike Williams and offensive tackle Tyron Smith. Both veteran players look to bolster the Jets offense that only saw three total snaps from Rodgers last season.

Both players can be elite at their position when they are in the lineup. The issue is making sure they stay in the lineup.

Last season Smith started in 13 out of 17 games after dealing with back, neck, ankle, and knee injuries. He is an elite pass blocker when in the lineup scoring above a 88 according to PFF.

Williams only appeared in two games last season for the Los Angeles Chargers. He has struggled to be a consistent presence in the NFL, only playing two full seasons since entering the league in 2017.

The Jets are hopeful that these two veteran playmakers can elevate the offense and make a run in 2024.
